Privacy
Updated September 30, 2026
This policy covers the Sumi app for iPhone and iPad and this website. For privacy questions or requests, contact sumi@ohm.software.
Learning data
Sumi stores your study history, review ratings, bookmarks, personal notes and preferences on your device. An optional display name is part of those preferences. When iCloud is available, the app synchronizes this data with your private CloudKit database. Appearance, voice and reminder settings stay on each device. It does not send that learning data to a Sumi-operated server.
Apple services
Apple processes subscription payments. Sumi reads verified purchase information to determine access, but does not receive your card details. Apple also provides iCloud and the system voices used for pronunciation. Their handling of information is described in Apple’s privacy policy.
Widgets, audio and reminders
Widgets use a study summary shared locally by the app. Reminders are scheduled on the device after notification permission is granted. Pronunciation uses iOS text-to-speech; Sumi does not record microphone audio.
Website and support
This website uses Cloudflare for hosting and delivery. Cloudflare may process IP addresses, request information and security logs to deliver and protect the site. The website also uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are visited and how visitors find them. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies and processes information such as the pages you view, your approximate location, device and browser on Google’s servers. We don’t use its advertising features, and analytics data is kept for 14 months. Its cookies expire 13 months after your last visit. You can turn analytics off at any time with “Turn off analytics” at the bottom of every page, and it stays off when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. A small script plays the product videos and, when you tap a speaker button, pronounces demo words with a Japanese voice on your own device. If you email us, your address, message and attachments are processed by our email providers, Zoho and Google, so we can reply.
Purpose, retention and sharing
Information is used to provide learning features, verify access, deliver the website, measure website use, and answer support requests. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Device and iCloud data remain until you remove them using the available controls. Support correspondence is kept while needed to address the request and meet applicable legal obligations. Providers may process data outside your country under their own terms and safeguards. Information may also be disclosed where legally required.
Your choices and rights
You can export learning data in Sumi Settings. Reset Learning Progress clears reviews, mastery and streaks but keeps bookmarks, notes and preferences. You can remove bookmarks and notes in the app and manage iCloud storage in iOS Settings. Deleting the app does not necessarily delete iCloud copies or cancel subscriptions. Depending on your location, you may request access, correction, deletion or restriction of personal information we hold, object to processing, or complain to your local privacy authority. Contact us for assistance; we cannot inspect your private iCloud records from this website.
Children and updates
Sumi does not require a separate account or knowingly collect children’s personal information through a signup form. A parent or guardian should supervise purchases and contact us if a child has sent personal information to support. We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
